What is bearing
Definition of bearing
Bearing is defined as the machine part which support a moving elements and guide its motion while preventing the motion in the direction of load
Drawback in bearing
There are two drawbacks in bearing power loss due to friction between the surfaces
To overcome or reduce the drawback lubricant is used
Function of lubricant
1 . reduce friction hence reduce power loss and heat generation.
2. Reduced ware waiting services.
3. Prevent corrosion by preventing oxidation of material
Material of bearing
1 high temperature performance
2 load carrying capacity should be high
3 fatigue strength should be high
Material For sliding contact bearing
Babbitt material tin besed bronze based
Material for rolling contact bearing
Hardened Steel carbon Chrome Steel
Classification of bearing
(A) sliding contact bearing
These are of two types
1.sleeve type
Sliding occurs on curved surface
1. Thrust bearing
Force occurs in axial direction
2 radial bearing
Force occurs in radial direction
These are of two types
1 hydrodynamic bearing
2 hydrostatic bearing
2. Slipper type
Sliding occurs on straight line
(A) ROLLING CONTACT BEARING
(a) ball bearing
1 . Deep groove ball bearing
2. angular contact ball bearing
3 . Self aligning ball bearing
4 . Thrust ball bearing
(B) ROLLER BEARING
1 taper roller bearing
2 niddle roller bearing
